Cate Hall is the CEO of Astera Institute, a $3B private foundation with a mission to steer science and technology toward an abundant future for all. Astera runs residency and data programs dedicated to the production of public goods to accelerate science, and has an investment arm that seeks to deploy philanthropic capital to retire risks in emerging technology development that governments and markets are not well-suited to address.
Before joining Astera, Cate was a co-founder of Alvea, a company developing shelf-stable, inhalable vaccines for pandemic response, and led the company's medical, regulatory, and operational functions while it took a drug candidate to a Phase 1 clinical trial within 6 months of the company's founding. Previously, she was the number one female poker player in the world, and a Supreme Court-barred attorney.
