Alex is the Director of the Gladstone-UCSF Institute of Genomic Immunology and a Professor at UCSF. His lab studies the genetic and epigenetic mechanisms controlling T cell function and develops CRISPR-based gene editing technologies for precise and cost-effective immune cell reprogramming.
Alex earned his PhD at MIT’s Whitehead Institute. After medical school and residency at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, he completed an infectious disease fellowship at UCSF, where he later established his lab.
